Although the waves and waters of the Pacific Ocean , along the North Coast are fine for California seals , most people and tourists find the temperatures a tad too cool – even cold and frigid for sunbathing on the beaches of  Northern California .

However , when it comes to scenery – indeed spectacular views of cliffs  and seascapes the North Coast Beaches take a second seat to none !   You can simply pack a picnic and take in the most pastoral beauty and beauties of the Northern California Coast and coastlines.  Explore wide tidal pools ,watch for seals .  Or you can enjoy the pleasure of simply diving for abalone.

Crowds are not an issue at all.   On the Northern California beaches you may find well find solitude – the beach may be largely for yourself , your family or traveling companions .

Day use is usually $ 5 or $ 6 a car depending on the area and areas.

Some of the beaches available:

Muir Beach

Doxbury Beach

Point Reyes National Seashore:  Limantour Beach is one of the most beautiful of Point Rey sands

Tomales Bay State Park : take Sir Francis Drake Boulevard off Route 1 toward Port Reyes National Seashore then follow Pierce Point Road to the park

Fort Ross State Park :  about 9 miles north of Jenner

Big River is protected and the only major undeveloped navigable estuary remaining in Northern California. Unlike the undeveloped portions of other rivers Big River is accessible. Here you find no need for rubber rafts or special paddling talents to experience Big River’s forested canyons, swimming holes and wildlife. Paddling through Big River’s forested canyon is a wonderful experience and working with weather and tides will add to your enjoyment. You are connected to the river and its environment.

If you’ve not had the pleasure of paddling a lightweight performance craft, be prepared for a delightful experience. We feature boats from WENONAH, Ocean Kayak, Necky, Dagger and Secret Harbor Boat Works. Choose our outrigger redwood canoes by Secret Harbor Boat Works. These highly stable, fast boats for one to 12 people. Outfitted with a rudder they are easy to control.

Mountain biking is a great way to explore the village and backroads. Rent or even buy.
