Salinas , the heart of the “salad bowl of the world” is the birthplace of Nobel and Pulitzer prize winning novelist John Steinbeck ( 1902 – 1968). His home , a two story Victorian on Central and Stone streets , has been restored and opened as a restaurant. Downstairs is the Best Cellar Gift Shop offering local crafts and a selection of the author’s works.
